about us

United Agarwood Planters,Inc (UAPI)

The pioneer of the legal and sustainable agarwood industry in the Philippines, UAPI's parent company, Iba Botanicals Inc., made history in 2021 by becoming the first company in the country to secure the necessary licenses for agarwood plantation development.

500 hectares

We are on track to achieve 500 heactares by late 2025. UAPI actively supports third-party planters by providing legal seedlings, along with long-term technical assistance and other essential support.

Licensed Partner

UAPI has partnered with the Malaysian start-up Synbion to leverage OUDIno-an innovative inoculant technology developed by the University of Malaysia Pahang (UMP). This collaboration not only accelerates the production of high-quality agarwood but also offers our third-party planters the full life-cycle support, backed by a buy-back guarantee. This ensures a vital connection to end users in both the Middle Eastern and Western fragrance markets.

WHAT IS AGARWOOD?

Agarwood, known as lapnisan in the Philippines and gaharu in other Southeast Asian country, forms a dark, resinous core in its heartwood when inoculated. This resinous heartwood is highly prized for its rich and distinctive fragrance.
Aquilaria malaccensis is a tree native to the Philippines. The tree has become endagered due to overharvesting and illegal trade, leading the Philippine goverment to prohibit the harvesting of Aquilaria malaccensis from the wild.

USES OF AGARWOOd

Agarwood has held significant cultural and spiritual importance since ancient times, with references in both the Old and New Testaments. Today, it remains in high demand for daily use, ceremonies, spiritual practices, and as luxury item. Its largest markets include the Middle East, China, Europe and the USA.
